Young apprenticeships for 14- to 16-year-olds have been added to the Government's Apprenticeships programme. Pupils accepted on the scheme will spend up to two days a week learning a trade. Initial opportunities will be in engineering, automotive industries, business administration, logistics and the arts and creative industries. Around 1,000 young apprenticeships will be available from September 2004 for pupils at the beginning of academic year 10.
