News in Brief: Fewer children reading at playtimes

Fewer 10- and 11-year-olds are reading at playtimes, according to figures from the Schools Health Education Unit, the independent research group. Fifteen per cent of boys and 20 per cent of girls favoured reading quietly during breaks in 2003, down from 19 per cent of boys and 25 per cent of girls in 1999.
