The number of cases involving persistent young offenders fell slightly last year, according to new figures from the Department for Constitutional Affairs. There were 26,086 cases in 2003, compared to 26,116 in 2002. The average number of days from arrest to sentence also fell, from 68 days to 66. www.dca.gov.uk/statistics/statpub.htm.
