Mentoring Plus programmes have helped disaffected young people to make positive changes to their lives through education and one-to-one support from adult volunteers, according to an evaluation from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. But it found "no evidence" that mentoring had an impact on crime, drug and alcohol use, family relationships or self-esteem. www.jrf.org.uk
