Preparing to Care by Predencia Gabbidon and Barry Goldson.
This induction programme, grounded in research, enables residential staff to develop the core knowledge, skills and values needed to provide a positive and caring residential environment. Staff progress can be monitored, evaluated and supported throughout their probationary period. It will also help ensure that the welfare of children and young people in residential settings is safeguarded and promoted through best practice.
Guides to the Children's Homes Standards
Also available from NCB is a set of guides explaining to children, parents and staff what they can rightfully expect from the Government's Children's Homes National Minimum Care Regulations and Standards. The standards were introduced in April 2002 to bring consistency across the sector and enable all those involved with children's homes to monitor and improve the quality of service. The new guides clearly explain what this means for those living and working in a children's home.
