The Institute for Effective Education (IEE) aims to develop, evaluate and disseminate effective education programmes and promote evidence-based education policies. It focuses on what works best for children, rather than what is most profitable or corresponds with current political trends or academic theories.
The institute creates educational programmes for nursery, reception, primary and secondary schools with an emphasis on literacy, numeracy and science. Effectiveness is evaluated and determined via rigorous research and then broadly disseminated. Using multimedia and computer technology to enhance - rather than replace - the teacher, it aims to build innovative lessons that creatively contribute to school reform in ways that are markedly more effective than anything that exists today. In this way, IEE will carry out systematic reviews of programmes and practices to help educators and researchers make intelligent use of evidence in education reform. It will also work to influence UK education policies.
