The seminar, on Monday 17 March, in London, will bring together policy makers, prison staff and play providers to explore why play provision is an essential service for children visiting prisons, and how a quality service can be provided.
The day will include presentations from researchers, civil servants, and specialists in training and development, as well as examples of good practice. Delegates will also discuss case studies and presentations to investigate practical ways to provide and improve good quality play opportunities in prisons.
NCB has also recently been awarded £161,491 from the Big Lottery Fund's Playful Ideas programme to develop better activities and approaches to play for young parents in custody and their children. The two-year initiative, Locked in Play, will develop new play programmes, provide training for prison staff and improve play facilities.
