Smoking, drinking and drug use among young people in England in 2004.

The latest in a series of Department of Health surveys of secondaryschool children provides national estimates of the proportion of youngpeople aged 11 to 15 who smoke, drink alcohol or take illegal drugs. Thesurvey can be downloaded from the department's web site.

Adoption and special guardianship financial support means test

The Department for Education and Skills' adoption team has prepared asuggested means test which local authorities may wish to use incalculating financial support for adopters and special guardians.

Facts and figures on ... substance abuse

There were 51 deaths associated with volatile substance abuse in 2003,the lowest annual recorded figure since data collection methods werestabilised in 1983. Gas fuels continue to be associated with themajority of deaths.
