Outdoor play is hitting the headlines at the moment. Last month it was the subject of the National Trust’s Natural Childhood report, which argued that children are suffering from “nature deficit disorder”. Before that Tim Gill set out the possible consequences of our children growing up with little access to nature in his Sowing the Seeds report for the London Sustainable Development Commission. In fact, a growing body of evidence is emerging that clearly shows children want and love to get outside to play, and they are healthier and happier as a result.
