Three decades on however, this is sadly not the case for many young people. It is a nationally recognised issue and, for those who struggle in education and do not progress, the problem is compounded and work is increasingly hard to find.
Working for a charity who's mission is to "advance the wellbeing of all children and young people across every aspect of their lives", I feel we have an integral part to play in ensuring young people can actively participate in the workforce and make a positive contribution in their communities.
I find it inspiring to be among some of the most disadvantaged under-18s in the country who are part of our Life Routes project. Here, they are gaining qualifications and knowledge, as well as enhancing the important life skills they will carry through the rest of their lives, for example, how to communicate effectively.
