National Youth Agency Comment: Prevention and early intervention

1 min read
Last week I had the privilege to be invited to the seventh Five Nations Biennial Conference on Children, Young People and Crime in Dublin. The theme was 'prevention and early intervention'.

Supported by the governments of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland, the conference is a joint venture that aims to share good practice in the youth justice field between jurisdictions and to examine differences in policy across the UK and Ireland.

It offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to improving youth justice policy and practice while promoting innovative local and national agendas for change. It was attended by 130 delegates, composed of representatives of voluntary and community services, statutory organisations and academics.

As the conference theme dictated, much of the focus was on the topic of early intervention and prevention.
