Speaking at a conference organised by the Confederation of Education Service Managers last week, Al Aynsley-Green, national clinical director for children at the Department of Health, said anxiety and depression were real problems for children. Outlining some of what the framework will cover, he said the importance of play, education and recreation for children would be stressed.
The framework will also state that hospitals will have to have written policies for the use of medicines in childhood and for managing pain in all children.
"I'm told old people with a broken leg get nitrous oxide for pain relief (from ambulance staff) but children don't get it," said Aynsley-Green.
