The Young Leaders Project, run by youth charity Weston Spirit, will work with schools in the Manchester area to "empower young people of White and Asian cultures to work together to tackle racism and issues that are relevant to them, and that will make their schools safer and friendlier".
Simon Jago, Weston Spirit public sector funding manager, said: "Across Manchester, young people have highlighted growing racism since the Iraq war and the London bombings, and Weston Spirit has developed this project to address these concerns." The funding awarded to Weston Spirit was part of a total of more than 2.6m allocated from the Big Lottery's Young People's Fund last week.
