MP says vetting changes needed

Further changes need to be made to the vetting and barring scheme to ensure those working with children are not adversely affected, a Labour MP has said.

Charlotte Atkins, MP for Staffordshire Moorlands, said the £64 fees may deter part-time workers from working in jobs such as school catering.

The scheme has already been subject to review by Sir Roger Singleton, whose recommendations were accepted by government.

Atkins said: "There are a lot of issues around employment that have to be looked at as they are not something Singleton focused on. There is time to make the changes."
