Local safeguarding children boards: The Ten golden rules ofpartnership working

Partnership working can be difficult, but there are several ways to make life easier, as Harrow's Betty Lynch reveals.

Harrow Local Safeguarding Children Board was established in October2004. We are continually developing our expanded role, and have learnedsome valuable lessons about partnership working. No project we haveconducted has adhered to every one of these rules, and we anticipatethat they will grow and change over time.

1. CREATE TOGETHER

This is about early discussion and developing an idea with others at theearliest opportunity. Leaders sensing a fait accomplit will feelexcluded from early discussions and be frustrated at a lost opportunityto engage in the creative phase. Adhering to this rule involves anacceptance that an individual can't provide all the answers and invitingthe group to find them together.
