Lib Dems demand better SEN training

The Liberal Democrats have called for better training for teachers on supporting children and young people with special education needs (SEN).

Policies on SEN approved at the party's spring conference last week also included ensuring SEN children are catered for within proposals to raise the education leaving age to 18. The party also agreed to support work to reduce the time it takes to assess a child for SEN.

Baroness Joan Walmsley, the party's children's spokeswoman, said changes to children's services have not responded to those with the most complex needs. "The current system for children with special needs is unfair and lets down thousands of young people," she said.
