Lib Dem EYFS shake-up is not needed

1 min read Early Years
Early years professionals have attacked Liberal Democrat plans to replace the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), saying it would cause disruption as the framework begins to be embraced by the sector.

The Lib Dems would replace EYFS with a "slimmed-down framework" to combat bureaucracy, according to their election manifesto.

But Daycare Trust chief executive Alison Garnham says the curriculum does not need to be reformed and is beginning to prove popular.

She said: "Any moves made at this stage to alter or abolish EYFS would be ill-advised and are likely to be unwelcome."

Last October, at the Conservative Party conference, the shadow schools secretary Nick Gibb described the EYFS as a "bureaucratic nightmare".

But the party has since stated that it will support the framework, at the same time as making efforts to cut bureaucracy.

National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) chief executive Purnima Tanuku was positive about the success and support for EYFS.
