Letters to the Editor: No substitute for research

1 min read
I was shocked to read that products such as New Philanthropy Capital's Wellbeing tool were considered a viable "quick" option to proper evaluation (CYP Now, 19 April-3 May).

Research is not straightforward. If we are going to produce data, it must be of a certain quality to aid decision-making. Universities have these skills.

For a cheaper option, there are many postgraduate researchers training within our universities who would be happy to secure a short paid placement to design and implement an evaluation of a service. The experience goes on the CV and the work constitutes merit awards for the right course. Many universities are looking to partner with others to increase the employability of their graduates. They have the support and the resources of the university.
