Letters to the Editor: Children's centres need shared purpose

Your article gives a very unbalanced perspective on my view of children's centres. In fact, I am a massive supporter of the critical role children's centres could play in strengthening families.

Children's centres should be seen as a core part of our public services, and the government's commitment to them should be as strong as it is to schools. However, the main purpose of children's centres needs to be clarified. Some do superb work, improving family resilience and turning around the fate of many babies and young children; others do not focus on the earliest interventions, do not make enough effort to support the "hard to reach" and do not add value to the strengthening of families.
