Letters: The right skills for work

1 min read
It was interesting to see the Conservative Party's plan to launch the National Citizen Service.

It is pleasing to see a major political party unveil a scheme that seeks to further the experience, participation and engagement of young people. This initiative also recognises the responsibilities held by charities, social enterprises and businesses to work together to ensure the next generation develop the skills and attitudes that will make them into a strong and enterprising workforce.

However, we must also ensure students have the opportunity to develop practical skills for life earlier through reaching young people from the age of five, right up until they leave school and through further and higher education. Ensuring the next generation develops these skills and attitudes will lead to the creation of new business opportunities that create jobs and reduce unemployment.
