The majority of young people said they were being "well" or "very well" looked after, with positive notices on safety and education. So why help close more homes? The YJB tells us that it doesn't have sufficient numbers of vulnerable children to meet demand, but its response is predicated on a very narrow vision of the role of secure children's homes. All children who require custody deserve the quality of care these units provide.

Support for new leaving age
Your article (CYP Now, 9-15 April) refers to an Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) motion "to start a campaign to keep the school leaving age at 16" quoting a delegate who condemned "this negative policy of compulsion".
