We wonder how accurate this figure is. The figures we have seen proposethat children's centres in Kent will have to run on close to 160,000 per annum. This compares with an average peak funding level ofaround 750,000 per annum for Sure Start centres in Kent.
From April 2008, the expansion of children's centres in the countywithout commensurate increases in budgets will see the original centrestargeting the 20 per cent most deprived communities attempting tosurvive on close to 21 per cent of their original budgets, while newmoney is made available to less deprived areas. The extension ofchildren's centre services to every community by 2010 is a laudable aim.The net financial effect appears to penalise the most disadvantagedwithin our communities.
