
As the Immigration Bill passes through the House of Lords, concerns have been raised regarding provisions in the bill to remove leaving care support from young migrants who do not have leave to remain in the UK when they turn 18. One group affected would be those young people in care who have lived in the UK for a significant period of time but who have never been assisted to regularise their status. If the bill passes as it is, they stand to lose all support upon turning 18 simply because the local authority has failed in its duties as corporate parent.
