
The Home Office's proposal to require teenagers to take ID cards ahead of the rest of the adult population was revealed in documents leaked to the Conservative Party last week. The plans also confirmed that "trusted professionals" such as teachers and youth workers would also be among the first required to carry the cards.
Luke Springfield, the UK Youth Parliament member for Hastings and Rother, said young people do not want the cards. "I am vehemently against the idea of ID cards and a lot of the young people I speak to don't like them or see what they are for. I am very concerned about the privacy issues."
