Lead professionals: Meet the budget holders

Lead professionals provide a single point of contact and co-ordinate service delivery for children and young people.

In 16 areas they are being given their own budgets to buy goods and services directly for families. These pilots will run until April 2008, when the government will decide whether or not to expand the programme. CYP Now finds out how the scheme is doing.

- What does being a lead professional with a budget involve?

We have about 80 personal advisers acting as budget-holding lead professionals. We're one of the national pilots and have focused on 15- to 19-year-olds not in education, employment or training in some of the most deprived parts of the county.
