1 min read
Parents will be able to check whether professionals have been barred from working with children under plans being drawn up by the Government.

Speaking at a Labour Party conference event organised by the Commissionfor Social Care Inspection, Maria Eagle, the junior children's minister, revealed parents will be able to check whether someone is banned.

Full details have yet to emerge, but the list of professionals bannedfrom working with children is controversial. In June the Care StandardsTribunal ordered the Department for Education and Skills to remove thename of Lisa Arthurworrey - Victoria Climbie's social worker - from thelist of people deemed unsuitable to work with children.

Regulators will also be able to make referrals for the first time andthe system will be continually updated. "The aim is to provideconsistent pre-employment vetting," said Eagle. "It has great potentialfor increasing confidence in the system so there will be moreinformation regarding knowing who is banned."
