
The ICS sets out an IT-based approach to handling children's social care records in England. But a study by the University of York's Social Policy Research Unit has uncovered a range of problems with the ICS for disabled children in the four pilot areas examined.
Tricia Sloper, assistant director of the research unit, said social workers found the forms they had to fill in were too prescriptive and unsuitable for use with disabled children. "They found it was hard to see a place in the forms where they could give a holistic story about the child's and family's needs. The forms were split into different priorities and they felt they weren't really designed for disabled children."
