A new report from the Office of the Children's Commissioner for England restates the case for children's centres to have a greater role in co-ordinating services for vulnerable children and families.
The report, Changing the odds for children in need, backs previous calls for children's centres to be turned into children and family hubs, offering a wider range of services to families in greatest need and ensuring they access help sooner.
Hubs were first put forward in 2014 by children's commissioner Anne Longfield when she was chief executive of the recently closed charity 4Children. Over the past two years, a number of influential organisations and individuals have also said hubs provide a way ahead for children's centres (see box).
