In the News: Lots of sizzle but alas no sausage as Peppa Pig fails to turn out for Labour.

It was a case of piggy in the middle when an innocent children's character found herself at the centre of an election campaign row.

Peppa Pig, star of a Channel Five cartoon, pulled out of an appearance at a children's centre where Labour was due to make a manifesto pitch to families, after the company that licences her said it was inappropriate for her to attend. Peter Mandelson said he was "pig sick" at Peppa's no-show, according to Metro. Meanwhile, Guardian columnist Tim Dowling tried to guess who Peppa would vote for were she a political animal. She's part of a traditional family unit, but her mum is a volunteer firefighter. She has a diverse circle of friends including a zebra and an antelope teacher with a French accent, recycles avidly and has publicly declared her support for Sure Start. Based on this evidence, Dowling worked out she'd either vote Lib Dem or Labour.
