In the News: Help! My baby needs breastfeeding. Well, just pop into the local fire station

New mums in Ayrshire will no doubt be celebrating the news that they can now pop in any time and breastfeed their babies in the peace and tranquillity of their local fire station.

Fire stations across the county have signed up to an NHS campaign, which aims to provide mums with public places to nourish their children. "Strathclyde fire chiefs - who have previously blasted their workforce for being too macho — agreed to open their doors as part of the Breastfeed Happily Here campaign," reported the Scottish Sun.

But not everyone approves. Richard Cook, of the Campaign Against Political Correctness, said: "A fire station is not a place where mothers and kids should be invited to drop in off the street. In fact, it's hard to think of a less appropriate place to breastfeed a baby — it's noisy and can be chaotic and dangerous."
