The paper recounted the embarrassing blunder by Aberdeen City Council, which ordered workmen to paint yellow zigzag "school keep clear" signs outside St Peter's Nursery. Unfortunately, the nursery had moved from the site 10 years ago.
And the story does not end there. "The mistake follows another error by the council, in which it destroyed new hospital markings mistaking them for the work of vandals," reported the Telegraph.
Apparently, the signs were supposed to direct people to the nearest bus route to the local hospital but residents complained after the strange blue circles and yellow footprints appeared without warning. The council ordered workmen to destroy the symbols believing them to be a student prank. "However, the council was forced to spend more money spraying new signs after realising they were part its own initiative." Oops.
