In Brief: Youth services - Bids made for Camden centre

Charities and individuals are understood to be among the bidders interested in keeping the high-profile Jubilee Waterside Centre open.

The centre, which hosted the launch of Youth Matters in 2005, has been threatened with closure after Camden Council pulled its 16,000 grant - which had been cut from 64,000 the previous year (YPN, 17-23 January, p3).

The centre's seven staff have been made redundant, but chief executive John Rowlinson and a colleague are still keeping it open. Rowlinson said: "Although the centre has had a financial downturn we are still very busy."
