
The call to action has come from charity 4Children's Family Commission following a survey of 1,000 UK families in which 65 per cent said long working days put strain on their family relationships.
Meanwhile, 64 per cent said financial hardship was a contributing factor to family problems, and 55 per cent of fathers felt they did not spend enough time with their children.
Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, told CYP Now: "As parties prepare their green papers, this is a strong indication from families that they want flexibility but they want it to be quality flexibility."
Government research published last month showed that four per cent of fathers worked part-time, compared with 38 per cent of mothers.
