Impartial Careers Education - Statutory Guidance

Education
In order for young people to make informed decisions about further learning and work opportunities, schools must provide pupils with careers information and advice. The Education and Skills Act 2008 requires that careers advice given by local authority maintained schools must be impartial, and must promote the pupils' interests rather than those of the school.

It also requires schools to have regard to guidance issued by the government, and this consultation seeks views on intended supplements to help implement this guidance.

Proposals include assistance for careers co-ordinators to develop curricula that meet the requirements of the guidance, and materials to help schools evaluate the quality of their careers provision. The response to this consultation will be published by early autumn, and will result in core statutory guidance for schools.

Closing date: 30 July
