Ideas factory: Children's play will help to shape the future of Islington

Eight-year-old Matthew Fennell lets his imagination run wild outside a newly decorated teepee in Islington, north London. The teepee, at Hayward's adventure playground, will now be used for story-telling and play activities. The project has been run by the council's Listen Up programme, in conjunction with Islington Play Association and arts-based organisation Apple (Acton Play Project and Leisure Events).

The scheme encourages children to get involved in the borough and finds out their ideas for its future through art and play. Apple helped to decorate the teepee with bells, bright colours and chimes. Hayward's adventure playground is designed for children and young people with special needs and is funded by Islington Council.
