Setting
Farnworth C of E Primary School
Purpose
To turn around the fortunes of an "inadequate" school
Funding
An annual budget of around £1m
Background
In June 2009, Farnworth Primary School was judged "inadequate" by Ofsted and placed in special measures, sending shockwaves through the local community. Located in the relatively affluent village of Farnworth in the Borough of Halton, Cheshire, the 380-pupil school has since undergone a transformation thanks to new leadership, changes in policy and ongoing support from its local high school. When current head teacher Jackie Stillings joined the school in September 2011, many positive changes were already under way such as the introduction of robust systems to track pupils' progress. However, there was still work to be done.
