Help From... Straight Talking Project

The Straight Talking Project works with young people to reduce teenage pregnancies in Britain, which are the highest in Europe.

Since 1998, the Surrey-based project has recruited, trained and employed teenage parents to share their experiences with young people aged 13 to 16 and teach them the realities of pregnancy and parenting through structured courses.

The project, which reached 3,000 people last year, also runs two-day training courses to enable secondary school teachers, youth workers, health promotion specialists and school nurses to deliver the programme.

The course uses a youth-friendly approach including a pregnancy simulation jacket.
