Health visitor training to be boosted

1 min read Health
Initiatives to improve health visiting provision will be in place by October, the head of a government action plan on the issue has pledged.

Viv Bennett, deputy chief nursing officer, will be leading the Action on Health Visiting Programme in the wake of Lord Laming's review of child protection.

The review called for immediate action to increase the numbers and competence of health visitors.

Bennett told CYP Now she wants to be in a position to make recommendations on ways to improve training and recruitment in time for a scheduled summit in May.

She added that she wants to see significant progress on key areas for improvement within a further five months.

"The Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association conference will be held in October and we want to be able to report back significant progress to the profession," she said.
