Health News: Eating disorders - Specialist centre to open in Wales

The first specialist centre for young people with eating disorders in Wales will open at the end of November.

The 3.5m privately funded Welsh Centre for Eating Disorders in Rumney, Cardiff, will treat people age 16- 25. It will have 26 inpatient slots, along with outpatient and day care facilities.

Director of operations Keith Woodall said the centre answered an urgent need in Wales.

According to Woodall, there are at least 600 cases a year of eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia in Wales, although the real figure could be higher due to undiagnosed cases.
