Health News: Asthma - Poverty barrier to cutting high rates

Asthma is a leading cause of hospital admission in children, according to an international report published last week.

The Global Burden of Asthma says each year nearly 19,000 children under four are admitted to A&E because of asthma. The UK has among the highest rates of asthma in the world.

Authors of the report say that barriers to reducing asthma include poverty and pollution.

The report comes as Linda McKenzie is suing Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Housing Association after claiming that damp conditions in her council flat gave her son asthma.
