Young people with life-threatening and life-limiting health conditions decided they needed a properly tailored life skills programme.

Name: Life Skills Programme

Provider: Richard House Children's Hospice, London

Thanks to breakthroughs in medical science and treatment, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses are living into adulthood and moving from children's hospice support to adult services.

Young people that attend the transition programme run by Richard House Children's Hospice and its adult equivalent, the St Joseph's Hospice, in East London felt they would benefit from a properly tailored life-skills programme that prepares them for adulthood.

The Life Skills Programme, which started in April and runs for 24 weeks, was created after consultations with these young people, with workshops overseeing issues from money management and independent living, right the way through to death and bereavement.
