Name Construction Boot Camp
Summary A two-week training programme in Birmingham for 16- to 18-year-olds not in education, employment or training (Neet) or at risk of becoming so

Fixing taps, sawing wood and painting walls – how better to spend the summer holidays? Such was the attitude of 20 young people who spent two weeks learning plumbing, carpentry and decorating at the first Construction Boot Camp in Birmingham.

The free scheme provided hands-on training to the 16 boys and four girls. The opportunity was open to 16- to 18-year-olds seeking a Level 1 National Open College Network-accredited qualification. Those who simply wanted to learn valuable skills were also welcome, but participants had to be classified Neet or identified as at risk of becoming so.
