Leading figures in family policy issued a joint statement calling for major improvements in services to help children affected by their parents' break up last week.

Forty people backed the statement including representatives fromcharities such as the Fathers Direct, NCH and Parentline Plus. It calledfor the creation of a network of support services for separated mums anddads and for agencies like the Child Support Agency to be the linkbetween services and families.

Duncan Fisher, chief executive of Fathers Direct, said: "People tend tothink there is general disagreement about the way forward on separatedfamilies. This statement demonstrates there is a consensus."
