Fair Play award to honour victims

1 min read Youth Justice
Lambeth Council is dedicating a youth sports award to the memory of young people who have died because of violent crime.

The council launched the young person's World Cup on 21 July, as it finalised its five-year plan to tackle gang activity among young people (CYP Now, 20-26 February).

For the next five weeks, teenagers from across the borough will attend football training sessions run in partnership with Fulham Football Club, culminating in a six-a-side tournament at Fulham's Motspur Park grounds on 31 August. It will include a "Fair Play" award in memory of those whose lives have been cut short by youth violence.

Council leader Steve Reed said football tournaments were an example of how young people could get involved in fun activities and have a positive focus over the summer break.
