Extended schools: Childminders still left out of plans

Some schools are still reluctant to work with childminders when developing extended services, the chief executive of the National Childminding Association said last week.

Liz Bayram revealed that a priority for the organisation was ensuringchildminders had the chance to work with children's centres and extendedschools.

The association has sent examples of good partnerships between schoolsand childminders to the Training and Development Agency, which isleading the development of extended schools. "In some areas we arehaving great success. In others we are still pushing quite hard," Bayramtold Children Now.

Bayram was speaking during National Childminding Week, with hundreds ofchildminders taking part in events across England and Wales to mark theweek.
