Employment: Work scheme is to help offenders

Hampshire County Council has joined with Wessex Youth Offending Team (YOT) to give work experience placements to young people leaving custody, or those at risk of offending.

The partnership will develop a range of Entry to Employment schemes with public bodies in the county.

The pilot scheme will run until March 2008 and is being funded with a 220,000 grant from the Learning and Skills Council.

Steve Crocker, head of services at Wessex YOT, said the pilot showed "real potential" in helping young people into training or employment.
