Employment: Trade unions call for wage rethink

At present, the minimum wage is 5.05, falling to 4.25 for 18- to 21-year-olds and 3 for 16- and 17-year-olds. It is due to rise to 5.35, 4.45 and 3.30 respectively in October.

But in its annual submission to the Low Pay Commission last week, the TUC said all over-18s should be paid 6."At the very least, the TUC is urging the Low Pay Commission to repeat its recommendation to the Government that the adult rate should be paid from an individual's 21st birthday," said a spokeswoman.
