Education: School buildings - 46m academy has no playground

Children's professionals have criticised the most expensive state school ever built in the UK after it emerged it will have no playground or break times.

The 46m Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough will open its doorsto more than 2,000 pupils in September. It will have no mid-morningbreak and lunchtimes will last just half an hour.

The school says a playground for this many pupils would beuncontrollable and taking it away would prevent bullying.
