Representatives from local and central government, schools and theprivate sector came together last week to discuss the Building Schoolsfor the Future (BSF) programme.
Speaking at the Westminster Education Forum seminar, Martin Lipson'schools programme director of local government agency 4ps, said localauthorities did not always have the capacity to deal with BSF. "Localauthorities sometimes have difficulty shoehorning BSF into thelandscape. There is a skills shortage at a local level of projectdirectors and so on. The reality is that a lot of people in localauthorities are doing their job as well as trying to do BSF," hesaid.
But Sally Brooks, divisional manager for school capital at theDepartment for Education and Skills, said that although mistakes hadbeen made, important lessons had been learned from the first three wavesof councils to implement the programme.
