Chris Keates, general secretary of the teachers' union NASUWT, said:"Schools need to review their school security arrangements andfamiliarise staff with the legal position."
Mick Brookes, general secretary of the National Association of HeadTeachers, said the new powers could put teachers at risk: "School staffare just not trained to deal with this."
A spokesman for the Department for Education and Skills said thatpublication of guidance for schools on how to implement the new powerswas "imminent".
